Do you know the difference between mobility and flexibility?
Did you know there was a difference?
That’s ok if you didn’t know, most people don’t.
It is important that you know the difference because my job isn’t to just train my clients but to empower and educate them!
Mobility is the ability of a joint to actively move through a specific range of motion. We use our muscles to help facilitate our joint range of motion with control.
Flexibility is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to lengthen passively through a range of motion. Think stretching versus actively moving through a movement.
Both mobility and flexibility are important to moving well but most people think they are the same.
There are people who are very flexible but lack mobility and there are some very mobile people who have poor flexibility.
You will notice throughout your mobility sequences that I include in the 28-Day Mobility Challenge, you might feel a stretch which is helping you gain flexibility.
You might also notice some burning or a muscle becoming active in a certain position or pose that is often a muscle trying to mobilize a joint or series of joints helping you gain better mobility!
Now that you know the difference do you have a good method for experiencing them?
I have a 28-Day Mobility Challenge that will have you moving better and with less pain in just a few short minutes each day. You can learn more about the program and mobility sequences at http://healthy.southshorefit.com/mobility28.
When you get started, see if you can decipher what you are working on in the moment. It might be both!
Have a great day,
